Students Augmentative and Alternative Communication Plan
When creating an augmentative and alternative communication plan, teachers must first make sure students need a plan. Some students with severe speech or language problems rely heavily on the implementation of an alternative communication plan to interact with teachers and their peers. Students do not always need to have severe speech disabilities to qualify for an ACC plan, if a student can not verbally communicate in all situations then developing a plan will help them in the classroom. It is also important to remember that when we bring in different ACC technologies into the classroom it should not act as a substitute for students speech, it should just enhance it. As teachers we must make sure all our students have an equal opportunity to learn and grow in the classroom.
